Pool Electrician Serving the Phoenix Metro Area
Johnson Power & Air is a licensed pool electrician serving homeowners across the Phoenix metro area, based out of Gilbert, AZ. Pool electrical work sits in the space where water and electricity meet, and it needs someone who understands both the code requirements and the equipment. From pump wiring to pool lighting to bonding and grounding, this isn’t a spot for a handyman-rate shortcut.
What Pool Electrical Work Involves
Pump and Equipment Wiring
Pool pumps, heaters, and salt chlorine generators each need a dedicated circuit sized to the equipment’s load. Running a pool pump off a shared circuit, or off a circuit that’s undersized for the motor, is a common cause of tripped breakers and premature equipment failure. We size and wire the circuit to the equipment, not the other way around.
Bonding and Grounding
Pool bonding ties together the metal parts around a pool, ladders, rails, the pump housing, rebar in the pool shell, so they sit at the same electrical potential. Grounding gives fault current a safe path back to the panel. Both are code requirements, not optional upgrades, and both are easy to get wrong if the installer isn’t specifically familiar with pool bonding requirements.
Pool and Landscape Lighting
Underwater and deck lighting around a pool has to meet different clearance and GFCI requirements than lighting anywhere else on the property. We wire and install pool lighting to those requirements, whether it’s a new install or a repair on an existing system.
Why This Isn’t a DIY or Handyman Job
Water conducts electricity. A wiring mistake around a pool doesn’t show up as a flickering light, it shows up as a shock hazard in standing water. Arizona code requires GFCI protection and bonding specific to pool equipment, and a licensed electrician is required to sign off on the work. Johnson Power & Air is licensed, bonded, and insured for this kind of work across the Phoenix metro area.
Service Area
We’re based in Gilbert and serve pool owners throughout the greater Phoenix metro area, including Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, and Queen Creek. When you call, we gather the scope over the phone, schedule a two-hour appointment window, and send a text when the technician is on the way.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you install lighting for existing pools, or only new pool builds?
Both. We work with pool contractors on new builds and handle repairs and upgrades on existing pool electrical systems, including replacing failed pool lights and rewiring pump circuits.
Is pool bonding required by code, or just recommended?
It’s required. Pool bonding connects the metal components around your pool to prevent electrical potential differences that create shock hazards. It’s not an optional add-on.
How much does pool electrical work cost?
It depends on the scope. Onsite estimates are free, and we’ll give you a firm quote before any work starts.
